During one of our maths lessons, we decided to make it sporty and chose one of the ’Get Set’ Olympic Maths Challenges. The children divided themselves into eight groups. Each group had a tennis raquet, tennis ball, stopwatch, recording sheet, clipboard and pencil. The aim of the activity was to see how many times each player could bounce the ball in 10 seconds. Their first try was recorded, then they all had another try. Next, they had to work out who had beaten their first try. After that, they had to work out the difference between the first and second tries. Then they needed to create a block graph, deciding on its scale. Once this was completed, each child recorded their 2 scores side by side. A very enjoyable time was had by all.
